I enjoy painting and drawing portraits, and I discovered I could do this about two years ago. My Artworks pay homage to some very talented and hard-working celebrities, a kind of ‘thank you’ from me. This is not a hobby, I feel like I MUST do this.
I have a 'day job', but I am not going to get into that here. I am also an Artist.
I have seen many (really, really talented) online Artists write their Biographies with the addition of the term ‘Amateur’. Art is not Mathematics. There is not one right answer. Every answer is correct. Art is Art. Every artwork will connect with its own audience; therefore all Artists are right in their own vision.
Not all Artists are formally trained, and there is no magical moment which qualifies you to start making Art.
So then, what is the difference between our childhood (when Art was just a form of playtime), and adulthood (when we force ourselves to define our Art as either amateur, hobbyist or professional).
You probably won’t love everything you produce. You are challenging, experimenting, and learning just like all the great Artists before you. Everybody has their doubts... and that is perfectly okay.
Create fellow Artists! Your contribution isn't requested, it’s essential... Be YOU!
